Core course
DCM100 Constructive Design Research
Research is an important activity within the Master Program of Industrial Design. Therefore, in the first quartile of the first year, all master students participate in the core course DCM100 Constructive Design Research. This course is only scheduled in quartile 1 and will prepare you for the individual design research project in the second semester of the first year of the master’s program. The course introduces you to theories and methods that you can implement in the project.
The goal of this course is to gain understanding and depth in 'Constructive Design Research' and related methodologies and theories. 'Constructive Design Research' is a form of design research "that imagines and builds new things and describes and explains these constructions" (Koskinen et al. 2011, p.6).
In a group, you will work on one of the particular design approaches covered in the course. Via discussions and final group presentations the approaches and qualities of the produced artefacts and developed knowledge are compared. This comparison should help to direct your own research in Project 2: Design Research.
More information on the course can be found in the Osiris Course Catalogue.
