Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (MSc)
The Certificate Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (CTEM) program helps students to enlarge their knowledge and improve their practice-based experience in the area of business management and technology entrepreneurship. The program is free for all master, PD-Eng and PHD students. The certificate is awarded jointly by the Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences and the TU/e Innovation Lab.
Within the CTEM program there are two variations: (1) CTEM broad and (2) CTEM in-depth.
1. CTEM broad offers the opportunity to broaden your knowledge. Next to your technical specialization (regular study program), CTEM broad will enlarge your knowledge with respect to business management in general and product development in particular. As such, you will be able to operate successfully in a corporate environment.
2. CTEM in-depth offers the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and develop practical skills in the area of technology entrepreneurship, by engaging in the actual experience of new venture development. You do this by either developing your own business venture or developing the business case based on an invention/technology recently created by the TU/e or one of its industrial partners.
The certificate program consists of three components and starts twice a year.
Basic Course Technology Entrepreneurship (5 ects)
The first component involves the required Technology Entrepreneurship Course (1ZM20, 5 ects).
Electives in the field of technology entrepreneurship and management (10 ects)
Next to the Basic Technology Entrepreneurship Course you have to follow two electives (10 ects) selected from a list of entrepreneurial and management courses. To subscribe to the courses go to Osiris. (Please note: the courses can also be attended by non-CTEM students). All courses are 5 ects.

CTEM-broad: Obligatory courses (10 ects) / CTEM in-depth: Project (10 ects)
When you follow the CTEM-broad variation the third component of your program will consist of two obligatory courses: “Management of Product Development” (1ZM16, 5 ects) and “Marketing and Innovation” (1ZM11, 5 ects).
When you follow the CTEM in-depth variation the third component of your program consists of the CTEM Project (1ZSM0, 10 ects). Within the project, each student will follow several skills training sessions recommended on the basis of a personal assessment.
The most important part of the Project is the development of a business case, that potentially can lead to the actual start of a new venture. The idea for this venture can be a specific proposition you have developed yourself or an idea provided by the staff. In the latter case, you can work on an invention/idea developed at the TU/e or an idea developed by one of our industrial partners (e.g. Heijmans, Philips, Digital EIT, KIC InnoEnergy, Maxima). If you want to develop your own venture, please contact the CTEM Project coordinator before the kickoff session. In all other instances, the kickoff session will serve to connect students to projects (based on their preferences), compose teams, and so forth. During the semester in which CTEM Project teams develop their business cases, students will participate in workshops on idea creation, business and market development, finance and risk analysis, and several other domains and skills. Each team will present its case to a panel of experts several times in the semester. Moreover, each team has access to a professional coach, who mentors the team in dealing with the critical hurdles they have to take.
